The Meg" is a 2018 science fiction action film directed by Jon Turteltaub. The film is loosely based on the 1997 novel of the same name by Steve Alten. It stars Jason Statham, Li Bingbing, Rainn Wilson, Ruby Rose, Winston Chao, and Cliff Curtis, among others.
The movie's plot revolves around the discovery of a massive prehistoric shark known as the Megalodon, believed to be extinct for millions of years. The story follows Jonas Taylor (Jason Statham), a deep-sea rescue diver who encounters the Megalodon during a rescue mission in the Mariana Trench. The encounter goes horribly wrong, leading Jonas to make a difficult decision that results in the loss of lives and his reputation.
Years later, Jonas is called back into action when a state-of-the-art research facility, Mana One, located in the trench, comes under threat from the awakened Megalodon. The creature starts wreaking havoc on the surface and poses a global threat. Jonas, along with a team of scientists and experts, must find a way to stop the monstrous shark before it causes further destruction and chaos.
